Fitness Walking
with your Pedometer

Walking for Fitness is an excellent way to increase your physical
activity level - and reap the many benefits that result from 'more
exercise'.
Keeping yourself motivated to 'stick with' your Fitness Walking
program is the secret of success.
All of us walk throughout our day - and night....but, turning our daily
"walks" into 'fitness walking' is a big step toward improved
fitness. The only piece of equipment you'll need is a pedometer.
A very inexpensive device ($20.00 to $40.00) that counts your steps (or
miles) as you walk. You wear it on your waistband - or belt.
Each time you take a step - it increments your step count by one.
Very Simple.
So... why do you need pedometer???
Setting a daily (step) goal is vital to your success!!!
Simply 'walking around' - as you do now - probably won't do a great deal to improve your
fitness. The normal person only takes around 3,000 steps per day.
That's a bit over a mile. Not nearly enough! The pedometer,
however, allows you to set a daily 'step' goal. Let's say
10,000 steps per day (around 5 miles). This part is important!!!
The only way you will know if you're
attaining your goal every day is to own and use a pedometer!
Everything changes when you have a daily Goal - and you can
measure your progress - and success!!!
Now that you own a pedometer - and have a daily 'step' goal...you're in
business. You'll find that you'll begin searching for ways to
increase your daily 'steps' to be certain you 'hit' your goal!
As you check your pedometer throughout the day, you'll be amazed how it
can change your daily habits. You'll begin to walk up stairs -
rather than the elevator/escalator.... won't park at the closest parking
space...walk during your lunch hour...etc.
If you're trying to lose weight...just adjust your goal --- UP!
If your Walking for Fitness AND weight loss....start adjusting your goal
upward. (Be sure to check with your physician before starting any
exercise program!!! That's a must!!!). 10,000 steps per day is a
good daily routine - that's for sure! Increasing your goal up to
15,000 can really increase your calorie burn rate. Combine this
will a reduced calorie diet and you'll start to shed pounds. How
much??? Impossible to say. Depends on how much exercise / fitness
walking you're doing - AND - how many calories your taking in each day!
But...one thing for sure. If you're reducing your calorie intake
- AND - increasing your physical activity level....you'll lose weight
over time.
Taking 10,000 steps per day could increase your "calories burned" by 300
to 400! Now, decrease your daily calorie intake by 500 calories,
and you've 'netted' around 1,000 calories per day through reduced diet
and exercise! That's a dramatic change that will drive results!
Here's the easy part. You don't have to make any phone calls - or
appointments - or join any gym to get started. You can put on your
walking shoes and start now. Make walking (more) a part of your
daily routine. Get your pedometer - set your goal - and you're in
business!
A great way to get started on your program is to make your
decision NOW - buy your pedometer and set your goal - then start
walking!!! It's that easy!!
